“Attending Village Camp was a turning point in my life… There was a magic at camp that has stayed with me, long after my tent was packed away, I left feeling so inspired, it was a remembering, an opening to possibilities for living that I had never conceived before.”

Becky, Village camp mentor, educator and mother of two young children

Mentoring at Village Camp

Come be part of our incredible mentor crew at our Village Camps.

This beautiful video will give you a little taste of the essence and magic of the village camp experience.

As a mentor, you are part of a team that is the backbone of these incredible camps. Mentors dive into a world of imagination and wonder alongside the kids of the village and guide older kids to explore their edges. By simply bringing your presence, curiosity and sense of adventure, you can help to create a world of magic that you and the kids can step into together. Everyone comes alive with the mystery and enchantment of the wild world. You don’t need to have bush skills – just a commitment to listen and play and embody a love of nature. You will be paired up with an experienced mentor for the morning adventures and often experienced kids too!

UPCOMING CAMP DATES:

After a short break, we are rekindling village camp this spring! We would love to hear from you if you are available and keen to mentor with us over these dates!

Spring 2024 Village Camp

Tuesday 1 October – Mentor/crew arrival and set up

Wednesday 2 – Saturday 5 October – CAMP

Pack down Saturday afternoon

Optional camp out Saturday night and head home Sunday

All crew need to have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC), or be able to obtain one before camp.

Location: Rowallan Scout Camp, Riddells Creek

The basic structure of the days on camp for mentors is as follows:

Mentors head out in the morning in pairs with a group of about 8-10 kids for bush adventures, and return to the village centre in time for lunch. We (mentors) debrief the morning over lunch (provided), then afternoons are free space, with possibilities of resting, hanging out with other villagers, sharing skills or games or impromptu workshops. In the evenings, we gather around the fire to share in a communal dinner prepared by our camp cook, then create a space to share stories of the day’s adventures and discoveries. One evening there may be a bonus (mystery!) adventure for adults and older kids, which you are welcome to be a part of.

To learn more about camp, check out the event page here (page coming soon).
