DESCRIPTION:Need some extra inspiration to get outside wandering\, exploring\, playing? Looking for a little extra connection with a beautiful nature-loving community? \nAs we dive back into lockdown here in Naarm\, or so called Melbourne\, we are feeling the call to tend to the fire of community and connection. It feels like a time to turn towards each other\, to be present to each other\, to help each other find the little spark of wonder that moves us to notice and connect with the world around us. \nAs a community\, we have co-created some incredible magic at our Wild by Nature Village Camps over the past few years. Kids and adults alike come along to share in curiosity and adventure\, to make discoveries and learn skills\, to share stories and songs and celebrate ourselves\, each other and\, of course\, the incredible beings of the land we gather on. \nWhen Covid-19 restrictions hit earlier in the year and we couldn’t gather\, we had to adapt and we shared a beautiful and connective virtual village experience – not the same of course\, but incredible all the same. Now\, as we sit in the ongoing uncertainty of the moment\, we want to rekindle that magic and come together each week to fan the flames of connection between us and between us the wonderful world around us. \nSo\, here is the plan\, a two-part weekly offering plus a couple of monthly gatherings! \nWeekly Wander \nA Nature Adventure sent to you each Friday – something to get you out in nature\, wherever is available to you locally. Something to spark your curiosity\, to build awareness of the world around you\, to practise skills or crafts\, to move and play in your wild body. There will be something to discover for kids of all ages (including adult kids!) You do the activity in your own time during the week\, in whatever way works for you. And if you don’t get to it\, you don’t get to it. No pressure\, just an invitation to engage in some way with the magic of nature. \nWeekly Waggle* \nA Weekly Virtual Village gathering on Thursdays from 4-5pm on zoom to see each other’s faces and connect; to gather up our stories and adventures from the week into a big community bundle; to sing and maybe dance; to listen to stories of magic and wonder; and to hopefully to leave with our individual fires burning a little stronger. \nPlus Wednesday evening monthly spaces (open to the wider community): \nWednesday Warble Song Circle \nSinging together online can be surprisingly connective and lots of fun! For adults and kids. \nVillage Hearth Adults’ Sharing Circle \nA space for adults of the village to share from the heart to the heart\, to bring yourself as you are and be with what is\, to speak and be heard\, to listen with curiosity and compassion. A space where courage and vulnerability are welcome and celebrated. A space to deepen connection and understanding of one another. \nWe will have a little corner of facebook\, for those who are on facebook\, to share photos and stories from our adventures\, as well as the Thursday gathering space. \nWe’re keeping it simple and as accessible as possible. The invitation is that you engage in a way that works for you. All – kids\, families\, adults\, elders – are welcome\, as well as\, of course\, the winged ones and rooted ones and four-legged ones and scaly ones and creepy crawly ones and fungi ones and mossy ones and all the beings we meet along the way! \nDates \nWe will run our program for 5 weeks. \nWeekly Village Gathering: Thursdays 4-5pm from  6th August to 3rd September. \nWeekly Adventure Invitations: sent out Fridays starting 31 July \nWednesday Song Circle – Wednesday 5 August 7-8.30pm FREE session (Monthly 1st Wed/month) \nVillage Adults’ Sharing Circle – Wednesday 19 August 8-9.30pm FREE session (Monthly 3rd Wed/month) \n  \nPricing and registration \nSliding scale $50-$150 per household for the 5 week block. \nWe are offering sliding scale payments in recognition that not everyone has the same means. We ask that you consider your means and your willingness to pay for this offering. The higher price points support us to be able to offer the lower prices\, to pay our facilitators and to support Firekeepers ongoing. No questions will be asked and no judgments made about how much each participant chooses to pay. We also have some tickets available on a NOTAFLOF basis (No one turned away for lack of funds) \nA sliding scale payment system is based on trust – thanks for bravely engaging in this experiment with us!

SUMMARY:The Art of Storytelling: Practice and Play!
DESCRIPTION:Have you noticed how a good story totally lights up a space? I have come to realise that storytelling at its best is very alive to the moment. Stepping into a story is like stepping into a great adventure. The storyteller\, like the adventurer\, has stepped out of known territory onto rocky\, uneven ground\, where each step is a conversation with the world. The teller\, like the adventurer\, must be alive to all that lives in the space. \nI have also noticed\, for myself at least\, that having a space to tell a story or to express my creativity\, can make me more alive to the world as I navigate life – on wanders\, sit spots\, in conversations with human and more-than-human beings\, at work\, while cooking dinner\, wherever it may be… Having a space into which my creativity can flow often seems to make me more alive to inspiration in the world around me. \nAnd I think we get better at things through practice and play. I want to practise telling stories with whatever ingredients are showing up in my life at any moment. I want to practise stepping off that ledge into the unknown territory of a living story. I want to practise stepping into the fear of the unknown\, into the place where I must meet each moment with presence and aliveness. I want to play with story and creativity and see what flows. Sometimes it might be terrible! I might get lost in my mind\, unable to find the flow. Other times\, the magic of a truly alive story might flow forth and light everyone up! \nWould you like to join me in exploring the art of storytelling in a space devoted to practice and play? No expectations\, no judgments\, a safe small-group space to play and explore the place where the imagination meets the world. \nWhen? \nFridays 2-4pm starting 7 August. \nWe will gather weekly for 4 weeks and see what emerges between us! \nCost: \nSliding scale from $40 to $120 for 4 sessions. \nIf you’re keen to join\, and this cost is prohibitive for you\, please be in touch with Steph at steph@firekeepers.com.au. \nStructure:\nWe’ll start with a short check in\, followed by some sort of story/imagination warm up\, then there will be space for 2 or 3 people each week to tell a story. You can bring a pre-prepared story or just some ingredients or sparks of inspiration. Or you could come totally empty-handed and see what emerges on the spot! I have a belief that we may realise that there will always be little sparks in there waiting for a place to show up\, no matter how unprepared or empty-handed we feel – I guess we’ll find out! The only guideline is that you don’t read your story from a page – you tell it and let it live… or fall flat. We will aim to finish with a brief check out to wrap up the journey we’ve been on together that day. \nWho? \nThis is for you if you believe stories are magic and want to share your love of stories with like minded group; if you want to explore story and storytelling in space that is supportive\, encouraging and playful; if you want to listen to stories from other explorers in the terrain of the imagination and feel able to be a non-judgmental\, supportive audience; if you feel able to commit to coming along regularly so we can build a safe space over time; if you feel ready to step into discomfort and trust in process over outcome. \nI mostly see this as a space for adults\, but kids who are keen and able to engage in a way that is supportive\, attentive and open to vulnerability are welcome. It’s an experiment\, so we can see how it unfolds. \nAbout me: \nI am Steph\, a nature connection mentor who has been working with Firekeepers while delving deeper into my own relationship with nature over the past several years. I remember being captured by the magic of story around a campfire about 5 years ago\, totally drawn in as the teller wove their tale. Since then\, I have been on my own exploration with story\, tiptoeing around the edges at first\, but going deeper with time and occasionally diving right into the depths! I am not an expert\, not a “master storyteller\,” but a lover of stories\, a lover of the spell that is cast by a magical tale and a consistent apprentice to the art of storytelling. I am curious about how storytelling interweaves with our connection to nature\, as well as to self and community. I believe we’re all born storytellers\, and I’m excited to continue to explore how we can uncover and open to that part of ourselves.
