SUMMARY:Nature Quest
DESCRIPTION:I go now to the wilderness to be part of it; to accept my place in the world; to grow into reality as a tree grows into the rain; to conform to the earth as a stream conforms to the stones of it’s bed\, To live. To aspire. To be.\n-William Ashworth \nWe acknowledge the Tatungalung people of the Gunaikurnai nation as the First Peoples of this land where we will gather.  We thank them for caring for the land and the waterways.  We pay respects to their Elders: past\, present and emerging. We acknowledge the wisdom and rich traditions of the custodians of this land. We grieve the destruction and loss of life\, culture and connection that has occurred in this country\, and our collective loss as a result. \n\n\nNature quest is a coming home to yourself\, to meet the wild within you and around you\, to hear the knowing in your bones and in the blood of your ancestors\, that you belong\, that you have a purpose which is yours alone to receive and to live into in service to yourself\, your people and the earth. \nThis is a time to shrug off the cloak of the identity you’ve been weaving\, leave it at the threshold a while (the earth will mind it); loosen those ropes which keep you bound to one way of being; let yourself be guided onto a path where your feet already know the way\, as you walk\, baring heart and soul into the wild unknown. \nWho will you meet? Who will answer your call? What will you find? \nThe ancient practice of solo wilderness vigil\, deep prayer with earth and spirit\, of journeying the land with clear intention\, is ours. It negates the current dominant culture of disconnection and isolation by bringing us into presence with the wild\, within and without. By nurturing space for awareness\, connection and healing within ourselves\, we also make space for these effects to ripple into the world around us. \nCome as you are\, be who you are and find what you need. \nNature quest is an eight-day program\, during which\, questers will have four days and four nights of solitude on the land\, a fast from all things familiar\, in close relation with the forest around them. Experienced facilitators hold the space\, supporting questers in their preparation and integration either side of the quest and ensure that their safety and other needs are met throughout the duration of the program. \nWinter Nature Quest is a calling to those who seek to be in ceremony with the dark\, perhaps to uncover seeds and roots buried deeply within\, or maybe to sow something new. We will be gathering over the time of the winter solstice\, the longest night of the year. It will be cold. It will probably be wet. It will be transformational. You will return with treasures\, gifts and stories to be shared with your family… your village… your community\, when you are ready. \nIf you are feeling a tug inside of you\, please be in touch. We are committed to supporting and accommodating all who are called to this quest. Places are limited however. \nFacilitators \nRosie Cooper \nCommitted to untangling the knots\, clearing and supporting the spaces needed allow people to remember and hear their calling\, their true nature. Rosie is a herbalist by trade and love\, but the quest ceremony has taken root in her life and become a prominent part of her work. Rosie first quested in early 2016\, which led to apprenticing with Claire Dunn (Nature’s Apprentice) and Quest Protector Training with Malcolm Ringwalt (Earth-Heart Institute). Over the last three years Rosie has facilitated\, supported or embarked upon quest almost every season. “This is the most simple and profound practice I have found for true healing\, deep connection and revelation of who I am.” \nMelissa Turnbull \nMelissa is a wild queer creature of earth. They grew up in Naarm\, (Melbourne) on both Wurrundjeri and Boonwurrung country\, and feel deeply connected to Aotearoa (New Zealand) where they journeyed for years. Mel feels most connected to ancient mossy forests of Antarctic Beech trees and counts them as her kin. They are passionate about building community and bridging connection between humans and the more that human world. Melissa holds space with love\, authenticity\, reverence and fun. Being a queer human\, Mel is no stranger to liminal spaces\, she loves the depth and clarity that can come with surrendering to the great unknown. Mel has trained with the School of Shamanic Womancraft\, 8 Shields\, Possibility Management and the School of Lost Borders. Mel runs nature connection and rewilding programs for kids\, youth\, families and adults and is excited and honoured to be holding space for courageous nature questers this winter solstice. \nTiaan Boni \nTiaan is a filmmaker and nature enthusiast. His love and passion for wildlife took him on a rewilding experience in 2016 with the intention of learning skills to create wildlife documentaries\, and he has been deepening his connection to the land ever since. Tiaan facilitates workshops on nature and self connection\, men’s retreats and assists at many different events including YARN Australia\, ISTA and the Men’s Collective. \nThe last couple of years have taken him into deep personal exploration of the human conditioning. His passion for Quest and traditional means of connection with land and spirit came while participating in a quest\, a deep profound understanding was met and a path unveiled. \n \nApplication details \nCost: \nFully-waged $1000 \nConcession $850 \nLimited community-supported places specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander folks and People of Colour $500 \nFully-waged with contribution to community-supported places $1200 \n20% Deposit with registration \nPayment plans are available \nIf you are feeling a tug inside of you\, please be in touch. We are committed to supporting and accommodating all who are called to this quest. Places are limited however. \n \nTo register or if you have any queries relating to costs or other details\, contact Rosie via email\, rosie@rarebeauty.com.au \nThe quest requires a fair amount of preparation in the lead up to the program\, so better to make contact with us sooner rather than later\, even if you’re still undecided. \n“My quest was one of the most humbling and beautiful experiences of my life. I have never felt so held and safe\, alone in the forest. I was able to surrender myself to the world in moments\, as well as have the time and space to feel all the inner voices and challenges that exist with me. It is a profound reset and reminder of the potency in solitude and fasting. Stripping our possessions and routines back allows space for the world to enter.\nRosie and Serra supported me through this journey in the most caring and nurturing way possible. The thought and care that went into preparing\, feeding\, listening and holding space was incredible.” -Lily Aagren

SUMMARY:Wild By Nature Village Camp- Autumn 2019
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to rediscover your inner wild? Do you want to immerse your family in the wonder and wisdom of nature while learning earth based skills? Do you want your kids to develop a deeper appreciation for living close to nature? \nJoin us this as we gather together to weave our very own village. Bring along your friends\, kids\, parents and grandparents to co-create a magical experience of connection\, fun\, traditional living skills and slowing down in a beautiful bush camp. \nSome feedback from our camp in spring:\n“We left with a deep sense of belonging and community. A connection with earth\, ourselves\, each other”\n“A most amazing\, life altering experience for young and old” \n“From 2 kids saying ‘Do we have to go’ to ‘When is it happening again?- I don’t want to leave!” \n“We had a ball- learned heaps and would recommend to any family” \n“Great way to get the whole family into the bush. Age is no barrier- Just prepare for fun!” \nSo… \nWho is this for?\nEveryone! This is a family friendly\, drug and alcohol free event\, with the program open to all. A true village embraces all ages and faces\, we welcome diversity. \nHow does it work?\nYou arrive with your tent and camping gear to a warm bush welcome. For five days we will explore the natural world around us\, create fire without matches\, make baskets and other earth crafts\, play games\, share stories around the campfire\, laugh and sing\, and take a much needed breath of fresh air. \nEach morning\, kids\, youth and adults will embark on their own adventures\, each group exploring\, playing in and learning from the natural world. While the kids (aged 4+) venture out into the bush with experienced nature connection mentors*\, the adults stay closer around camp to learn earth-based skills and practice nature observation and awareness. Younger children (up to 3 years old) will stay with their parents/carers\, with an optional ‘roo and joey’ program for them to participate in too. Alternatively\, the young kids can stay with their adults while they participate in the adult program.\n*All of our mentors have Working With Children Checks and qualified First Aiders will be on hand should the need arise. \nAround lunchtime\, the kids will return from their adventures and rejoin their families for lunch and a free flowing afternoon. There will be time for village members to play with new friends\, practice their new skills\, share their talents or just chill out. Some might wish to head off for a wander or take some quiet time to rest and relax. \nWhat about food?\nEach family or person will bring their own breakfast\, lunch and snacks. There will be some space for campfire cooking\, but it would be a good idea to bring your own camp cooking equipment. \nWholesome dinners* will be cooked on and shared around the campfire in the evenings\, a space to share stories from our day full of adventures\, sing songs and relax in the atmosphere of the tribe. After the evening program we will head to our swags for a restful sleep to prepare for a new day of fun and adventure! \n*We are able to cater for omnivorous\, vegetarian/vegan\, gluten free and dairy free dietary requirements if notified on booking. If this isn’t you\, you will need to bring extra food to supplement. \nMorning programs\nFor the kids:\nEach morning with the camp mentors\, children and young people (aged 4+) will venture into the bush to experience a free flowing exploration of the surrounding bush. The mentors will guide the children’s play in a safe way and enable each child to connect with the natural world around them. We aim to create a safe space in which the children can listen to their own creativity. We will play games\, immerse in story and song\, wonder at the nature that surrounds us\, find animal tracks\, and learn wild skills such as fire\, shelter and craft. Through this play and exploration\, the kids will drop into a new awareness of the wild world around them\, connecting more deeply with the plants\, the earth\, the animals\, and with each other. \nFor the adults:\nWhile the kids adventure out into the wilds\, the adults will be invited on their own journey of learning and discovery. We will explore earth-based skills and crafts such as fire-by-friction\, string making\, coal burnt spoon crafting and basket weaving. We will also explore the Core Routines of Nature Connection through skills of observation and awareness\, bird language and natural movement. The archetypal ‘wild child’ will come alive through games\, nature play and connective activities. There will also be time to share and listen in circle. \nFor the littlies:\nA Roo & Joey program is offered for parents and their children too young to head out with the kids. This is facilitated by a mentor and is flexible to meet the needs of kids under 4 and their parents. Sometimes the Roo and Joey group will be close to home base and other times they will journey out into the wilds. We are sensitive to the fact that the practicalities of camping with a toddler or younger child will probably mean that parents can’t participate fully in the adult program\, as parents with older kids can. We want to support these parents to come to camp and be a valued part of the village\, which is why we offer the Roo and Joey program at a reduced price. \nFor the teens:\nWe will offer a varied program for teens in our village\, which will change each camp. In January our teens went off together on an over night hike with experienced mentors. There will be a focus on skill development as well as connection to self\, other\, community and nature and the more than human. We will work toward holding rites of passage for the young people that we are growing in our village \nParticipation in all activities is optional – we encourage individuals to listen to their own needs and follow their own curiosities. \nBooking now open- Early bird tickets available until 17th March\nwww.trybooking.com/BAYIH

SUMMARY:Rewild Fridays
DESCRIPTION:An Urban Dive into Deep Nature Connection Practices\nThe old ways are new again for the many now seeking to (re)learn the skills\, practices and mindsets of our ancestors – everything from our food to footwear. \nIt’s a movement that’s become known as ‘rewilding’; a return to a wilder or more natural\, instinctive way of being. In contrast to the ‘back to the land’ movement of the 70’s\, rewilding is as much urban as it is rural – wildness rather than wilderness. \nLearning daily practices to ground ourselves in the rhythms of nature\, and acquainting ourselves with the plants\, animals\, and elements of our bioregion\, we can begin to cultivate deep connection with earth wisdom\, ourselves and each other. \nAre you ready to create time for deep connection in your life?\nRewild Fridays is an ongoing program dedicated to exploring deep nature connection practices\, nature play\, community building and traditional earth skills within a small group of under 12 participants. \nTogether we will explore and experiment with practices and activities that will serve to embed us into the land we live (yes the city!)\, the more-than-human-world\, and each other. The goal here is connection – to self\, earth and community – the pathway to a life of vision and joy. \nWhat do we mean by Deep Nature Connection Practices?\nSpending time outdoors does not necessarily cultivate a deep connection to nature. Pioneers in the field drawing on anthropological study of indigenous cultures\, science\, and a long hard look at the effectiveness of environmental education have found that there are core practices that quickly create strong bonds of connection between humans and nature. \nSimple and repeatable practices such as tracking\, bird language\, sensory awareness and attuned mentorship are some of the most effective and ancient techniques that exist to enable profound connection with nature\, with ourselves\, and with each other. By understanding our relationships with the animals\, plants\, weather and wind\, and various aspects of the natural environment around us\, we re-pattern our brain and nervous system to activate what are known as ‘the attributes of connection’ – happiness\, vitality\, the ability to listen deeply\, increase empathy\, helpfulness\, true aliveness and gratitude for life\, compassion\, forgiveness and the quiet mind. \nWhat might we get up to?\nHere are some of the activities we may explore. Repeated over many weeks\, these practices strengthen the threads of connection until they become strong ropes of relationship. \n\nSit spots\nTracking\nBird Language\nMapping/Navigation\nIndigenous Knowledge\nNatural Movement & Awareness\nThe Art of Wandering\nNature Games and Play\nNature Literacy and Ecology\nWild Edibles and Medicinals\nFire-by-Friction\nNatural cordage and rope\nShelter Building\nEco-Dye\nHide Tanning\nBasket weaving\nHide Tanning\nCeremony\nCommunity Building\nCampfire cooking\n\n“For me\, Rewild Fridays has been an insightful and enchanting journey of both nature connection and self-discovery. Utilising a combination of traditional skills\, listening\, silence\, stillness and enquiry\, Claire and Mel have artfully guided my deepening connection to the natural world and opened my senses to a conversation I never knew existed. I will never be the same.” Seth Consedine\, Father and Osteopath. \n“Rewild Fridays gave me the skills\, knowledge and confidence to engage with the wild places all around me. It’s not just in the national parks an hour drive from my house – the wild is in my backyard\, my local park\, that tree right next to the milkbar. It’s made me feel more alive.” Michelle Kovacevic\, Mother and Community Organiser. \nThe Facilitators\nMelissa Turnbull  and Claire Dunn are both passionate about nature connection and have been studying for many years with experts in the field such as Jon Young from the 8 Shields Institute. The main facilitators of the program\, Mel and Claire will also invite various experts in the field such as naturalists\, ecologists and skills experts to guide. Indigenous involvement is also something that will be sought (see more below). \nThe Details\nRewild Fridays is a regular dedicated program of study and nature adventure held on Fridays between 9.30am – 3pm in parkland settings within Melbourne’s inner north. It is envisaged that every fourth or so Friday we will adventure to a location within about an 1 hour of Melbourne for an immersion in a wilder landscape or during particular foraging seasons such as mushrooming in autumn. \nMost participants commit to full terms of study (and play) however we will offer a number of ‘drop in’ passes each week. \nWhy is this not on a weekend?\nRather than an extra-curricular activity\, we would like this to be considered a commitment akin to any other program of study. And besides\, we like family/play time on weekends. \nHow much will this cost?\nTerm passes are available for the Summer 2019 term running every Friday from Feb 1 to April 5. \n$765 for waged \n$675 concession \nHalf-term (5 session) passes are also available: \n$425 waged \n$375 concession \nDrop-in passes: $95/$80 \nTo book\, head here \nPlease email info@naturesapprentice.com.au with any questions or call Claire on 0466 523 326. \nDates\nThe program will run every Friday between Feb 1 and April 5. Dates of attendance must be confirmed before term starts. We will then break for the Autumn Wild by Nature Village Camp. Mel and Claire will both be present for at least half of the Fridays\, and some days solo facilitating\, or bringing in guest presenters. \nCancellation Policy\nTickets are only valid for this term. Dates of attendance must be confirmed before term starts. Date changes within the term can be made with at least one week’s notice of the session you are cancelling. No refunds or date changes with less than a week’s notice. No refunds available. Half term passes must be booked in by the previous Friday. No refunds on drop in tickets. If you can’t attend a Friday you are booked in for\, you may on-sell your pass. \nWe acknowledge that we will meet and learn on Wurrundjeri and Boon Wurrung Country. We acknowledge the the Kulin Nations as the First Peoples of this land. We thank them for caring for the land and the waterways and value the sharing of their knowledge and stories. We pay respects to their Elders: past\, present and emerging. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.

SUMMARY:Wild By Nature Village Camp- Summer
\nParticipation in all activities is optional – we encourage individuals to listen to their own needs and follow their own curiosities. \nEarlybird tickets on sale until Friday 30th November

\nAre you ready to create time for deep connection in your life?\nRewild Fridays is an ongoing program dedicated to exploring deep nature connection practices\, nature play and traditional earth skills within a small group. \nTogether we will explore and experiment with practices and activities that will serve to embed us further into the land we live\, the more-than-human-world\, and each other. The goal here is connection – to self\, earth and community – which is our birthright and the doorway to a life of vision and joy. \n\nSit spots\nTracking\nBird Language\nMapping/Navigation\nIndigenous Knowledge\nNatural Movement & Awareness\nThe Art of Wandering\nNature Games and Play\nNature Literacy and Ecology\nWild Edibles and Medicinals\nFire-by-Friction\nNatural cordage and rope\nShelter Building\nEco-Dye\nHide Tanning\nBasket weaving\nHide Tanning\nCeremony\nCommunity Building\nCampfire cooking\n\nThe Facilitators\nMelissa Turnbull  and Claire Dunn are both passionate about nature connection and have been studying for many years with experts in the field such as Jon Young from the 8 Shields Institute. It is envisaged that every fourth or so Friday we will adventure to a location within 1 hour of Melbourne for an immersion in a wilder landscape or during particular foraging seasons such as mushrooming in autumn. \nSince this is a pilot program\, we will offer the opportunity for people to ‘drop in’ for Fridays (bookings still essential)\, but the greater invitation is for a committed group to gather and learn together regularly. \nWhy is this not on a weekend?\nRather than an extra-curricular activity\, we would like this to be considered a commitment akin to any other program of study. And besides\, we like family/play time on weekends. \nHow much will this cost?\nWe are offering a four class pass\, (to be used within the first 6 Fridays of the program) as well as a drop in option. \nA Four class pass is $300 Full Price or $250 Low Income \nDrop in class is $85 Full Price or $70 Low Income \nTo book\, head here \nParticipation is to be confirmed one week before. \nWhy is this so cheap?\nWe realise that most day long programs are substantially more expensive. As this is a pilot program\, we are offering the first half of the year classes at a discounted rate. \nDates\nThe initial four class pass can be used for the following dates: March 2\, March 9\, March 16\, March 23\, (break for Easter)\, April 6\, (break for Wild by Nature Village Camp)\, April 20. \nThe intention is to then continue with the following dates until a winter break in June: April 27\, May 4\, May 11\, May 18\, May 25 \nWe acknowledge that we will meet and learn on Wurrundjeri and Boon Wurrung Country. We acknowledge the the Kulin Nations as the First Peoples of this land. We thank them for caring for the land and the waterways and value the sharing of their knowledge and stories. We pay respects to their Elders: past\, present and emerging. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded. \nFor more information and booking enquires email:  claire.mosley2@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Wild By Nature Village Camp Spring 2017
DESCRIPTION:See feature article in Weekend Notes! \nAre you ready to rediscover your inner wild? Do you want to immerse your family in the wonder and wisdom of nature while learning earth based skills? Do you want your kids to develop a deeper appreciation for living close to nature? \nJoin us this October as we gather together to weave our very own village. Bring along your friends\, kids\, parents and grandparents to co-create a magical experience of connection\, fun\, traditional living skills and slowing down in a beautiful bush camp. \nSounds great!- Where do I sign up? \nWho is this for? \nEveryone! This is a family friendly\, drug and alcohol free event\, with the program open to all. A true village embraces all ages and faces\, and we welcome diversity. \nHow does it work? \nYou arrive with your tent and camping gear to a warm bush welcome. While the kids (aged 4+) venture out into the bush with experienced nature connection mentors\, the adults stay closer around camp to learn earth-based skills and practise nature observation and awareness. Younger children (up to 3 years old) will stay with their parents/carers\, with an optional ‘roo and joey’ program for them to participate in too. Alternatively\, the young kids can stay with their adults while they participate in the adult program. \nWhat about food? \nEach family or person will bring their own breakfast\, lunch and snacks. \nMorning programs \nFor the kids: \nEach morning with the camp mentors\, children (aged 4+) will venture into the bush to experience a free flowing exploration of the surrounding bush. \nFor the adults: \nWhile the kids adventure out into the wilds\, the adults will be invited on their own journey of learning and discovery. \nParticipation in all activities is optional – we encourage individuals to listen to their own needs and follow their own curiosities.  We invite the village to come together under the principles of  sovereignty\, synergy and sacredness. Child friendly\, drug and alcohol free environment. Pets will need to stay at home. \nLocation and details \nWild by Nature village camp is to be located at Rowallan Scout Camp in Riddles Creek\, about an hour north of  Melbourne. \nOn Wednesday 4 October\, arrival day\, we will gather together in the afternoon and settle in. That night\, we will share our first meal and prepare for Thursday’s activities. Campers will arrive and set up between 1-3pm. We will gather together for a welcome around 4pm and share dinner at 6pm. \nFrom Thursday through Sunday\, our days will follow the schedule outlined above. \nOn the afternoon of Sunday 8 October\, it will be time to go our separate ways\, each taking back with us our own wild nature and a beautiful memory of village connectedness. Departure time will be 2pm \nIdeally village members will stay for the whole camp\, relaxing deeper each day into the village rhythm. However\, for this camp\, there are a limited number of Wednesday to Friday and Weekend only tickets available. Wednesday to Friday villagers will arrive Wednesday with the village and leave Friday afternoon. Weekend village members will be invited to arrive Friday afternoon or evening\, sharing their first meal with us Friday night\, and will depart Sunday afternoon with the village. \nFacilities \nThe scout camp provides toilets and hot showers. SUMMARY:International Mud Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:“Mud. It seems like a nuisance\, doesn’t it? As soon as it rains\, mud is everywhere\, and it literally gets all over everything. There are definitely no benefits this slippery\, sticky dirty substance could offer\, right? Wrong. And the creators of International Mud Day are out to prove it! After all\, mud is quintessential to the outdoors\, and the outdoors mean fresh air and exercise\, two of the best things for people. And so what if we get a little dirty? Plenty of research has shown that coming into contact with a certain amount of bacteria is good for us\, as it helps build up immunity\, as opposed to living in a virtually sterile environment\, which makes our bodies very vulnerable. Not to mention how many minerals mud can—there’s a reason why people pay hundreds of dollars for mud masks and baths at spas. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get dirty!” \nThis international Mud Day\, come and squelch with us. We will be creating clay-based mud play and lots of muddy slippery fun!\n$20 per family. Booking essential: www.trybooking.com/QKGL\nWear bathers and old clothes\, Bring towels\, bag and a change of clothes\, a thermos of hot chocolate and a desire to have a lot of muddy muddy fun!!! \n*Clay will be brought in for this event- and we need to be mindful of where we are. We won’t be digging up and creating mud pits from the parklands. We will take care to respect other users of the parklands and keep the bathrooms tidy\, so most cleaning off will have to happen at home*
